Is it Halloween?
Halloween is my season. Over the years I've made that clear, right? Then why aren't I excited for it? Ever since after my birthday, I've been anticipating October and the Halloween season, but now that we're here, I'm not 'feeling' it, and I don't know why.
Over at Geekade, I'm writing weekly editions of Macabre Movie Mausoleum about the Friday the 13th franchise. And this year, I've introduced a new recurring feature Rising from the Crypt, where I'm rewatching and reviewing every episode of Tales from the Crypt. With these posting on Sundays, that makes five editions this month alone, and added to the MMM for all Fridays of October, I'm writing nine pieces total.
You would think that would create some kind of horror overload, but Halloween, as a season or even just as a single holiday, hasn't really taken over my mentality like it normally does in years passed. I don't even know what my costume is going to be, let alone what party I'll be wearing it to.
I'd hate to think the political climate of our country has some way seeked into my subconscious ability to enjoy the season. That'd mean I should prepare for over three more years of this funk. And that is something I'm not ready to face.
Maybe it's because the weather still feels like summertime, but recent years have been rather warm as well, and it didn’t bother me.
It's still in early in the month, and maybe things will pick up for me, but I don't ever recall being this apathetic towards the greatest season of all. I'm sure as we get even closer to the big day, I'll snap out of this funk, and don't worry I've already got a story lined up for the 31st.
Oddly enough, I even have plans for next year's Halloween season on this site, which I'm excited for, but I hope this year doesn't become a wash. In any case, stay tuned for some Halloween fun here at AzarRising.
