What I'm Reading: Firestarter
I'm back with another round of 'What I'm Reading' and as I promised in my update for Books of Blood by Clive Barker, I assure you it won't take me months for the update.
I've made no secrets that Stephen King has long been an influence of mine, especially his numerous short story collections. Several years ago I had the realization that as much as I read and adored the author, I had barely read any of his novels. I vowed to correct that, and began with Salem's Lot. Now I return to his world with...
Firestarter. I'll admit I know so little about this book, that I haven't even seen the movie. All I know about it, is that the movie stars Drew Barrymore, and it is about a little girl who can start/control fire. Now, typically, I'm not a fan of horror movies that star little kids as the source of terror. I find that most of the times, the child's lack of acting talent and ability to posses a terrorizing demeanor takes me out of the movie.
On the other hand, I think a book is the perfect medium for scary kids (perhaps animated films, but that's neither here nor there). I'm actually kind of excited going into this not knowing much about the book, because in the hands of Stephen King, even a lamp can be scary.
I know in my head the little girl character will look like that one picture of Drew Barrymore from the movie that I've seen, so I hope she matches King's description from the book. Be sure to stay tuned and come back soon (hopefully) for the update and rating.
