What I'm Reading: Redshirts
You know me; horror, mystery, comics, wrestling. Those are pretty much my genre interests in a nutshell. However, it wasn't too long ago that I was also I big fan of fantasy and science fiction. To this day I still keep my ear to the ground for the juicy details, like the recently announced Star Trek series with Patrick Stewart reprising his role of Jean-Luc Picard.
With that said, I feel it more than fitting that I begin reading a book I was told about several years ago. A friend/employee at my local comic shop recommended Redshirts to me.
He told me that the book takes place in a 'Star Trek' like universe. It is common knowledge of sci-fi fans that on the show any low ranking crew members wearing a red shirt had an unbelievably high death rate while on away missions. In that vein, ensign crew members in the book have a similarly short lifespan. One of the new ensigns learns this pattern and sets out to discover why.
I may no longer be the biggest of sci-fi fans, but having purchased the book over five years ago, I decided it's time to read it (the fact that most of my books are still packed up from the move helped in the decision).
Come back soon to see how I feel about the book, and see if this reignites my interest in sci-fi
