WWE Results: Payback 2017
Welcome back for the PPV results for WWE Payback. Time to find out if Rybo Slice is able to further his lead, or will one of the other stable mates be able to tie it up?
How was Roman Reigns' return? Did anyone care? Was Seth Rollins able to exact some revenge on Samoa Joe? What in the hell was the House of Horrors match? Did any belts change hands? Lets find out.
Enzo Amore & Big Cass v Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson
This match was better than I unfairly gave it potential for. It was by no means a great match, but it wasn' horrible. No matter who won, I can't really see the story moving forward, but with Enzo and Cass, as faces, picking up the victory, I don't see them going for the belts if the Hardys retain like we all anticipate.
Winners: Enzo Amore & Big Cass (Pink and Rybo Slice)
Kevin Owens (c) v Chris Jericho (United States Championship)
Wow, not only was this a good match, which I think everyone expected, but Chris Jericho actually won the match and the belt. We clearly weren't expecting that. I'm very curious to see how this develops with Jericho rumored to be taking time off to tour with Fozzy. Either way, I'm happy to be pleasantly surprised with a Jericho title win.
Winner: Chris Jericho (no one)
Neville (c) v Austin Aries (Cruiserweight Championship)
Oh how sweet it is! Maybe TJ Perkins didn't show up, but I got that gimmick stealers title-less victory correct. In what was one of the better matches of the night, that faker may have picked up a DQ win, but Neville retained the belt. I deserve double point for this one, but it's ok, I won't need to rely on this to win the night.
Winner: Austin Aries (by DQ) (Double A, Brundan, Rybo Slice)
The Hardy Boyz (c) v Cesaro & Sheamus (Raw Tag Team Championship)
Phew, I started to get worried that there wasn't going to be any heel turn from Cesaro & Sheamus. The match was fine, nothing we didn't expect all the way down to the heel turn. I was never the biggest fan of the Hardys, but it's good to see them back. I'm more curious to see if we'll ever see Broken Matt in the WWE or not.
Winners: The Hardy Boyz (everyone)
Bayley (c) v Alexa Bliss (Raw Women's Championship)
I think this may have been match of the night, and not just because my girl Alexa Bliss pulled out a surprise win to become the first woman to hold both the Raw and Smackdown Women's championships. After watching this match, I wish it was later in the night as it deserved to be.
Winner: Alexa Bliss (Rybo Slice)
Samoa Joe v Seth Rollins
His shoulder was off the mat! Can we have a do over? I can't believe how bad this match ended up being. This is what should have been match of the night, but it was a boring by the numbers match, with a cheap roll up victory.
Winner: Seth Rollins (Pink, Rybo Slice)
Bray Wyatt v Randy Orton (House of Horrors match)
I am man enough to admit, that this wasn't the train wreck that I expected. It wasn't good per se, but it could have been so much worse. Everything in the "house" was serviceable, although it must have sucked for the audience in attendance. But once they went to the ring, everything went to shit. I understand that they wanted to use this opportunity to further the Jinder/Orton story, but having Bray Wyatt NEED help from Jinder and the Bollywood Bros in what was supposed to be his signature match, made Wyatt look very weak. Even with his win, Wyatt came out on bottom of this match, and with the shitty position he's found himself in now on Raw, Wyatt needed a dominant win.
Winner: Bray Wyatt (everyone)
Roman Reigns v Braun Strowman
Maybe it's because I am among the many that don't like the push Roman got, but I was ok with this match. Strowman is a beast, and there were only a few ways they could have supported him in this match. Having him win cleaning and dominantly, then destroy Reigns afterwards, was one of those ways. I'm genuinely surprised they wen this route, but I'll take it. Very curious to see where it goes from here. I just hope, they don't now have another match once Roman is 100% just to have him win.
Winner: Braun Strowman (no one)
And that was the conclusion to a very subpar PPV. I must say I'm very disappointed with how some things developed here. And no, I'm not just bitter because I lost again, although if we again take all the little plot point and stipulations that I correctly guessed and count them as points, I think I would have won. But since we don't, the winner is...
RYBO SLICE wins two in a row!
