WWE Results: Extreme Rules 2017
From Baltimore , Maryland, WWE presented Extreme Rules last night. How did things go? But first a quick recap of our stables scoring.
As you can see Rybo Slice came out of the gates with a solid 2-0 lead on the rest of us, but last month Brundan and Double A had the first tie in our short history to break that streak. We've taken steps to prevent any future ties. Let's see how things develop...
Kalisto vs Apollo Crews
While I predicted this match would be created for the Kickoff, but I wasn't made aware of it until after yesterday's post went up, so we didn't vote on it.
Dean Ambrose (c) vs The Miz (Intercontinental Championship, if Dean is DQ'd he loses the belt)
90% of this match went exactly as I expected. This was a good match that told the right story about Dean almost getting disqualified on multiple occasions, however I feel they overplayed their hand too soon, and too heavily. For no reason, they had Dean "almost" get himself dq'd often. In any case Maryse played the expected role, and even though I knew she'd get removed from ringside, I was not ready for another Miz run as IC champ.
Winner: The Miz (Brundan, Pink, Rybo Slice)
Rich Swann and Sasha Banks vs Noam Dar and Alicia Foxx (Mix gender tag match)
I'm glad I didn't remember that Swann was from Baltimore, or it may have influenced me to vote the other way since WWE loves having the hometown heroes lose. But as everyone anticipated the 'good' guys won this one rather decisively.
Winners: Rich Swann and Sasha Banks (everyone)
Alexa Bliss vs Bayley (kendo stick on a pole match for the Raw Women's Championship)
Once again, as we were all anticipating, Alexa won this one with ease. It was almost embarrassing for Bayley. I'm glad Bliss won, but they could have made it a more even fought match. It was brutal though, I'll give them that.
Winner: Alexa Bliss (everyone)
The Hardy Boyz (c) vs Cesaro & Sheamus (Raw Tag Team Championship cage match)
Full disclosure, I didn't know that in a tag cage match, the only way to win was to have both members escape the cage. And I sure as shit would not have voted against the Hardy's in that case, but man am I glad I voted the way I did. This was a great match, very entertaining, hard hitting, told a solid in ring story built around the stipulation. This is how you do a stipulation match, unlike the Kendo stick on a pole that came before it.
Winners: Cesaro & Sheamus (Double A)
Neville (c) vs Austin Aries (Submission match for the Cruiserweight Championship)
This was a great match, but I wish it went on for a little longer. Seeing the two of them go back and forth is truly a thing of beauty. The near falls, working on the injuries, the top rope spots, everything bled together so fluidly, I just really wanted to see more of it.
Winner: Neville (Brundan and Double A)
Bray Wyatt vs Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor vs Roman Reigns (Fatal 5-Way for Universal Championship #1 contendership)
I know Rybo Slice is disappointed that Finn came out without the Demon paint, but I expected they were going to save that for a later PPV probably Summerslam, one year from the last time we saw the Demon King. I had my doubts about this match when it was first announced, but it was pretty damned good. If I had known, or was confident, that the winner of this match was officially getting their match at Great Balls of Fire (ugh) I wouldn't have made my selection, but I have no regrets.
Everyone looked like they had a legit shot at winning the match (except maybe Bray Wyatt, sorry Pink but WWE continues to shit on him). There were some great spots like Seth's frog splash off the top turnbuckle to Bray on the table, and I even liked the little one on one time that Seth and Roman had towards the end of the match, even though I knew from that, neither one was going to win. I'm a little surprised Joe won, but I'm more shocked that Finn was the one he made pass out.
Also, Joe took that participation award cake and devoured it.
Winner: Samoa Joe (no one)
Well do I have egg on my face or what? We had a tie last PPV and to prevent that we created a tie breaker scenario. Unfortunately, we had another tie this time, and the tie breaker, didn't break the tie. What does that mean? Pink is dead last, while the rest of us have a three way tie at 2 a piece.
Here it is, the new standings.
