Rejection 18: Heaven Sent
Here we go again, another submission, another rejection. That wasn't meant to sound too jaded. If you've read my 'goals update' you'll know that I have submitted more this half year than I have in the past, which a great thing. Unfortunately, all of the responses have been in the negative so far, but I'm not discouraged.
Thank you for allowing us to read your story, "Heaven Sent".
Unfortunately, we are not accepting your story.
Please excuse this form letter. It is not a reflection on your submission--we would love to give personal responses to every submission, but can only afford to do so for a small subset to keep response times down. (Reading on mobile devices has helped keep response times short, but the slowness of touch-screen typing makes personal notes more difficult)

In the last rejection I posted, i exclaimed "to hell with form rejections" then I got this one, and I kind of like it.
I've seen others that explain why they only give form rejections, but with this one they say occasionally they'll give a personalized rejection. Basically, I take this as them saying that 'if we like your story but couldn't place it, we'll let you know, but since you're getting this form rejection, that means we just didn't like it'. Obviously that very well may not be the case, but the honesty behind that assumption pleases me. In any case, I know this isn't one of my strongest works, and out of my comfort zone of horror/mystery. This is a religious speculative fiction story, so even if I was 100% satisfied with it, this would be a hard sell. But it'll get there, I trust that.
