WWE Predictions: Summerslam 2017

WWE Predictions: Summerslam 2017

"The biggest party of the summer" is here, and it is a stacked card, we've got 13 scheduled matches, and only a few that don't show much potential. But overall, this has the potential to be better than Wrestlemania this year.

Summerslam poster.jpg

We've got the Beast promising he'll leave our screens if he loses (fingers crossed on that) his Fatal-4-Way against Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman. Shinsuke Nakamura is poised to take his rightful place at the top of the company, and with Baron Corbin already wasting his Money in the Bank cash in, whoever wins between Nakamura and Jinder Mahal will be walking out as champ. Sasha Banks vs Alexa Bliss is a much more compelling match than Bayley still being in the picture (though I do wish a speedy recovery). The Usos are challenging for the Smackdown tag title against The New Day, but somehow this match has been relegated to the kickoff.

Enough with the jibber jabber, let's get to it

Kickoff

Akira Tozawa (c) vs Neville (Cruiserweight Championship match)

Summerslam cruiserweight.jpg

Brundan: This match would have been much tougher to pick if they didn't all ready change the title.  I guess they figure more people watch RAW then the preshows.  Still a stupid reason to change the title a week before the second biggest show of the year.  Tozawa will take this one and I have no idea where they go from here. - Akira Tozawa

Rybo Slice: The Neville train ain't stopping here, this is just a hiccup. It's last stop will be wrestlemania! So
Neville wins the belt again. - Neville

Double A: How is this a kickoff match!? These two had a great match on Raw where Tozawa first won the belt, and it could only get better if they were given more time to work with, instead they're thrown into a worthless kickoff time slot. I don't know, maybe WWE is trying to make the kickoff matches matter more, but this still feels like a demotion, especially considering some of the matches that are on the main card. Ok, I'm done venting, on to the actual match; I don't think they gave the belt to Tozawa just to take it off of him less than a week later. Neville will probably get a screwy finish victory, but end of the day Tozawa is walking out with the strap. - Akira Tozawa

Pink: Titus WORLDWIDE! Titus needs a champ. Neville doesn't benefit from only having a week in between reigns. - Akira Tozawa

The New Day (c) vs The Usos (Smackdown Tag Championship match)

Summerslam uso new day.jpg

Rybo Slice: New Day got some more time dancing with those belts. Always a sweet match to watch between these two teams though. New Day rocks summerslam yo! - The New Day

Double A: How is this a kickoff match!? Yes, that may sound redundant but damn it, these four/five have shown they can put on a damned good match. Honestly, if it weren't for these two teams I wouldn't care much for the tag team division. This is going to be a close match, and it's difficult to pick a winner, but I have to go with the current champs retaining. - The New Day

Pink: I'm still burned from The Usos losing last PPV. - The New Day

Brundan:  New Day wins.  I continue not to care about both teams.  I miss American Alpha. - The New Day

WWE logo.jpg

The Hardy Boyz and Jason Jordan vs The Miztourage

Summerslam 3-on-3.jpg

Double A: While The Hardy's and Miz are all main card quality talent, the other three are suited fine for being on the kickoff show. However, what's a shame, is the fact the I.C. title isn't being defended at all on the PPV. I don't foresee this being that great of a match and I honestly don't care who wins, but I figure they'll want to keep Jason Jordan's momentum, so team Hardy and Jordan will win. - The Hardy Boyz and Jason Jordan

Pink:  I don't vote against the Miz, he's going to lose, but I don't vote against him. Maryse may be in there for the save, hopefully. - The Miztourage

Brundan: Who cares about the the IC title on the second biggest show of the year.  This should be cut and dry.  Hardy's and Angle Jr do cool looking stuff.  Miz and jobbers cheat, they miss something and the Hardy's and Angle Jr win. - The Hardy Boyz and Jason Jordan

Rybo Slice: 6 man tag in the house! My crystal ball says that Jason Jordan gets the pin on the Miz which will set up a title shot down the road. - The Hardy Boyz and Jason Jordan

Main Card

Cesaro & Sheamus (c) vs Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins (Raw Tag Championship match)

Summerslam bar-shield.jpg

Pink: They just got back together, their frenemies, and will play the same role that Cesaro & Sheamus did when they first got together. - Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins

Brundan: Shield Reunion!!!!!!  So my prediction is Cesaro and Sheamus win after Dean turns on Seth this time.  Dean needs to be freshened up and what better way to do that then have him turn on Rollins.  It does make sense since Seth turned on Dean all those years ago.  People want to see the Shield reunion so bad that I think WWE will tease it then say screw it. - Cesaro & Sheamus

Rybo Slice: It'd actually b dope to see the shield win but i don't see the shield reunion going on for so long...so ill pick the dudes with skirts keeping their titles at summerslam. - Cesaro & Sheamus

Double A: This match is going one of two ways, either Ambrose is turning heel or he and Rollins are winning the belts. I don't think they're going to have a lengthy reign, but I feel like after all of the back and forth about them getting together again, 2/3 of The Shield will win this one, just for Dean to turn a little later on. - Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins

WWE logo.jpg

John Cena vs Baron Corbin

Summerslam cena corbin.jpg

Brundan: This I cannot see being good.  Big match John needs someone to have a big match with and I don't think Corbin is the guy.  I am over pretty much Corbin and judging by Smackdown so is the WWE.  Cena wins this one. - John Cena

Rybo Slice: I want to say Cena but wouldn't be surprised if Corbin somehow someway gets a win on captain America...Hmmmm can't bet against my boy so I'm picking Cena even though he don't need it. - John Cena

Double A: Who the hell did Baron Corbin piss off? First he does nothing since winning the Money in the Bank, then he loses his cash in, and now he's got to lose to Cena. I mean big match John is advertised for Raw coming up soon, and he'll likely challenge the Universal Champ, and he can't do that coming off of a PPV loss. - John Cena

Pink: Because he's been shat on by WWE creative, they have to have something planned for him, hopefully. - Baron Corbin

WWE logo.jpg

Finn Balor vs Bray Wyatt

Summerslam balor wyatt.jpg

Rybo Slice:  I want to see the Demon come out! Fingers are crossed! Finn gets the easy win tonight regardless. - Finn Balor

Double A: At least Bray won on Raw this week, but we all know he's got zero chance tonight, right? They've already announced that Finn will come out as the Demon (which is a huge waste of a surprise element they could have utilized) and unless some mysterious Wyatt Family member shows up to screw over Balor, there's no way he's losing. - Finn Balor

Pink: Bray loses, it's just what they do. They both need the win, but they'll screw over Bray like they always do. - Finn Balor

Brundan: So they teased this months ago at the superstar shake up.  Here we are month later and we have what my friends and I use to call an instafeud.  Two guys feuding for basically no reason.  We get to see the Demon which is going to be amazing.  WWE can't mess that up right?  Sorry Alex bray loses again. - Finn Balor

WWE logo.jpg

Big Show vs Big Cass (Enzo Amore in a shark cage)

Summerslam shark cage.jpg

Double A: How is this not a kickoff match!? Does anyone actually care about this match? Cass already took away Big Show's main weapon, the Knockout Punch, and there's rumors that Enzo will turn heel to remain relevant. Either case, this is Cass' night for a big win. - Big Cass

Pink: Cass deserves the win, but when there's a shark cage stipulation, they always interfere. Big Show will overcome the injured hand and come away with the win. - Big Show

Brundan: Big Cass wins the bathroom break match. - Big Cass

Rybo Slice: We'll start this match off with a awesome promo by Enzo in the beginning then the beat down will begin! Cass will lay the big show down for the count! - Big Cass

WWE logo.jpg

Randy Orton vs Rusev

Summerslam rusev orton.jpg

Pink: No real reason for, but after failing to capture the title after 3 tries, they need to have Orton win. - Randy Orton

Brundan: Remember when Rusev was going to be the next big thing?  I'm actually a little torn because it feels like there is no way Rusev can win, so he probably will.  I'm going to stay safe and say Orton wins this one. - Randy Orton

Rybo Slice: This match will be my pee break match bc I couldn't care less. Rusev needs the win but the crowd wants too see the RKO...Hmmmm. Rusev final answer! Hate the tough ones so much! - Rusev

Double A: Both of these guys may be main eventers, but with zero build or hype for the match, this should be on the Kickoff. Randy doesn't need a win, he's got a Hall of Fame career already, and Rusev has been out of the limelight for too long. He needs the win, and I want him to win, that's all that matters. - Rusev

WWE logo.jpg

AJ Styles (c) vs Kevin Owens w/ Shane McMahon as Special guest referee (United States Championship match)

Summerslam US Belt.jpg

Brundan: With Shane being the guest ref something goofy will probably happen and AJ will retain.  I keep hearing that we are going to get a Shane vs Owens match and that mean more stupid looking Shane punches.  Ugh - AJ Styles

Rybo Slice:  I got a gut feeling shane messes up and KO gets the win. I see this title going back and fourth with these guys for a while. - Kevin Owens

Double A: Sometimes you have to be careful what you ask for. I don't mean Owens asking for a competent ref, I'm talking about us fans wanting a competitive mid-card. Now we've got to pick between the Prize Fighter and the Phenomenal 1. Neither man should lose, and they both deserve to be champs. At this point I don't know who I want to win, or who WWE thinks should win, but I don't see them turning Shane McMahon heel, so AJ retains, I guess? - AJ Styles

Pink: AJ is going to get upset over Shane's officiating, and Owens will capitalize or AJ will do/say something to piss off McMahon for a rematch at another PPV.  - Kevin Owens

Jinder Mahal (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE Championship match)

Summerslam wwe title.jpg

Rybo Slice: REDONK TOUGH! Is it time to have Jinder drop it?!? Will Jinder have a trick up his sleeve?!? Damn this vote to hell!!! I'm gonna go with Nakamura...Final Answer! - Shinsuke Nakamura

Double A: Does WWE have enough faith to give Shinsuke the belt on his first attempt? Is the Jinder experiment over? And possibly more importantly, how big of a role will the Singh brothers play in the match? As far as I'm concerned, Jinder has been a serviceable champ, and could hold it for a bit longer, but I don't see Nakamura losing. Randy Orton may have destroyed the Singh brothers in his title attempts, but Shinsuke will find a way to eliminate them long enough to nail Mahal with a kinshasa and score the win. - Shinsuke Nakamura

Pink: With the Singh Bros. and Great Khali in his pocket, Jinder has a leg up, and I don't see Nakamura getting the title so quickly. - Jinder Mahal

Brundan: If you told me a year ago this one be a huge match at Summerslam I would have told you to go to a loony bin.  Can lightning strike twice for Nakamura?  It was a year ago at NXT Takeover when Nakamura won his first NXT title from Samoa Joe.  I really hope they duplicate his entrance with the amazing violin player from last year as well. It was unbelievable live.  Now, can Nakamura hinder Jinder?  I say yes.  I think Jinder loses and when the India tour happens Jinder will be challenging for the title instead of being the returning championship hero. Shinsuke Nakamura

WWE logo.jpg

Alexa Bliss (c) vs Sasha Banks (Raw Women's Championship match)

Summerslam bliss-banks.jpg

Double A: Can we all agree that Alexa Bliss is damn near the perfect heel female for the division? As such, I don't want to see her lose, but Banks is going to capitalize on this opportunity that Bayley's injury has provided. - Sasha Banks

Pink: Little Miss Bliss wins because I like her. Sasha probably will win, but I have to go for Alexa. - Alexa Bliss

Brundan: If this was Bailey vs Bliss I would be all for a title change for sure.  But I am a little torn here.  Bliss has been a great champ and I can see her retaining the title.  However they could throw a monkey wrench in and have Banks win and fight Baley when she returns.  I'm going to stick with Alexa so be safe. Alexa Bliss

Rybo Slice: This can go either way but I believe that Bliss will lose to Nia when the time is right and lose the title then. So for now she is safe. Bliss with another blissful win! - Alexa Bliss

WWE logo.jpg

Naomi (c) vs Natalya (Smackdown Women's Championship match)

Summerslam naomi-natalya.jpg

Pink: Bad guys (or girls) need love to. They need a heel champ right about now. I don't think Carmella is going to cash in anytime soon, so a heel champ works. - Natalya

Brundan: I really wish they would give Natalya a nice run with the title.  She has been a good performer and fun wrestler for so many years now.  However I believe Naomi will take this match.  However I don't think she is leaving Summerslam as champ as I can see Carmella cashing in.  If that happens I want double points - Naomi

Rybo Slice: There's a part of me that feels it's too obv that the glowing gal wins this...I'm still gonna pick Naomi for the win though. I think Carmella is cashin in and takin that belt right after! - Naomi

Double A: Unlike the previous women's match, I have absolutely no excitement for this fight. I used to like Natalya, and for that I would like her to win, but I don't see it happening tonight. Naomi is the only female on Smackdown that has shown a personality lately, and I think the Glow shall remain. - Naomi

WWE logo.jpg

Brock Lesnar (c) vs Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe vs Braun Strowman (Fatal-4-Way Universal Championship match)

Summerslam 4way.jpg

Brundan: This is going to be a Hoss battle for sure.  I think Roman and Braun are going to cancel each other out and will end up fighting in an upcoming Hell in a Cell match, but not for the title.  That leaves Joe and Brock.  I really want this to me Joe's moment.  I'm kind of over Brock as champ.  I've convinced myself.  I'm going with Samoa Joe WWE champion!!! - Samoa Joe

Rybo Slice: This is a tough one. I don't see Brock keepin it though. He can lose it without getting pinned. So I think it's time that the Braun era begins! He can't be dragged around the title picture anymore. Put that belt on the monster! - Braun Strowman

Double A: Remember how I said up top that I hope Brock loses and leaves the WWE? Well, what I hope to happen very rarely actually happens, and I don't see this match being any different. Who do I want to win? Braun Strowman. Who do I think deserves to win? Samoa Joe. Who do I not want to win at all? Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. But Brock is going to win, retain the belt, and I think he make actually show up a bit more in the next few month, because I predict Cena challenging him for the belt soon, maybe even breaking Flair's championship record before Mania. - Brock Lesnar

Pink: Joe, deserves the title, but I don't think they're going to pull the trigger on him and I think it'll be good for WWE to give it to him. He's not your typical superstar, but he can go better than most. I don't want Roman, plain and simple, and they need to get the title off of Brock, bottom line. He's a part timer, not showing up every week, and it's hurting the prestige of the title. That leaves Strowman. There are only two ways this ends well for Braun, he wins, or Brock takes him out of the equation and someone else takes the fall, but I don't see that happening.  - Braun Strowman
