The Hand

The Hand

Welcome back to AzarRising, I hope you’re ready for a special treat. One of my goals with this website is to not just showcase my own writing, but to also display the talents of others. That can be seen with my Six Rounds interviews with other artists (stay tuned for the next one coming soon), however that also includes featuring other authors’ writing. Today’s author is not just any other author, but a published poetry writer (who also happens to be my fiance) Sable Diakos.

One night while I was writing, I challenged her to write something inspired by one of my favorite paintings, The Hand by Salvador Dali. Thinking I took her out of her wheelhouse and possibly stumped, she surprised me with this piece in pretty short fashion.

The Hand

She watches with a smirk on her face

As he reaches over to lend you a hand

Those from below watch in marvel

Others are nervous of where the hand will land

She watches with a smirk on her face

And her mind ravels and consumes the man

Unbeknownst to him

She has a master plan

She watches with a smirk on her face

As the hand pulls them towards the sky

She watches with a smirk on her face

but the man doesn't know why

...they are drifting away

How great is she? Completely different direction than I would have gone, but that’s the beauty of art, it really can mean so many different things to everyone. Maybe one day I’ll write what I always interpreted the picture to mean, but today belongs to Sable.
