Dreams: The Fantasy Avengers

Dreams: The Fantasy Avengers

So last night I had an odd dream that I just had to share with everyone before I forget it. The dream started with the Avengers fighting some terrorist threat, a bunch of no name villains. Throughout the dream my point of view is that of a fly on the wall, unfortunately I’m not the hero I am in my head.

Visible in the fight are Iron Man, Black Widow, Wanda, Hawkeye, and Falcon. There are other heroes fighting, but I can’t see who they are. Falcon and Hawkeye are getting all the civilians out of the immediate area which is in the middle of a city, while the rest deal with the immediate threats. I don’t know what the larger goal of the attack is supposed to be, but it looks like the terrorists are going to fail. Everything seems to be going smoothly for the heroes, Iron Man makes a trademark quip and the last of the terrorists are apprehended. However, things turn tragic just before everything gets wrapped up as an explosion rocks the surrounding area, killing Falcon and Hawkeye instantly.

The dreams jumps to the next scene with the remaining Avengers gathered in a public concrete park, with no civilians around. This park is between several office buildings, and I believe exists in Chicago, which fits the aesthetic of the rest of the dream.  Black Widow is the one most visibly shaken up by the deaths, as her and Hawkeye’s relationship seems to be a bit more intimate than what was shown in the movies. However, needless to say the rest of the team are all similarly affected.

With Captain America not present, Iron Man tries to make the team building morale speech, but it’s not as poignant as Cap’s would normally be. Realizing he’s losing the crowd, he looks at his teammates for any help with conveying his feelings in the moment. Now is the first time we see the other members of the team that were hidden during the fight. Sitting on stairs between Widow and Wanda is Batman, Iron Giant (who isn’t too ‘giant’ here but human sized), and Ronald McDonald, if you didn’t know, none of whom are actual members of the Avengers.

Batman is sitting at the top of the stairs, high above everyone else. Iron Giant is trying to sit cross legged, but apparently, he still weighs as much as he did when full sized, as he destroys the railing simply by leaning on it. The normally jovial clown, Ronald McDonald has his face hidden in his hands. He steps up, revealing his smeared makeup, runny with sweat and blood, he looks more like Pennywise than the spokesman many of us grew up with. He addresses his teammates, “This is why we do what we do. We fight those intent on hurting others.” He says more that I can’t remember exactly, but more or less affirms that death is a real possibility for being a hero, but better a hero die protecting citizens, than a citizen dies with no hope of ever being saved. “Threats come from all angles in this world. Humans can be just as bad of villains as blood thirsty aliens. No offense.”

MORK.jpg

My view of the dream shifts to show another team member sitting behind Black Widow, “None taken.” replies Robin Williams as Mork, from Mork and Mindy who is also evidently an Avenger in this world. “nanu nanu” indeed.

At this point I woke up. Never before in my life have I wanted to revisit a dream as I do this one (and that includes any... yea any dream). Fingers crossed I can revisit this one tonight.

Keep reading, and remember to enjoy life.
