Writing Goals Check-in
Roughly six months ago I put to mind four writing goals for 2018, and I thought it would be nice to revisit those at the halfway mark of the year, since I've been away from here for so long.
I've forgotten what some of those goals were, so I'm sure you have too, and that's fair. I haven;t been active here for a few different reasons, but I'm always thinking of different things I can do with the site, and I've got something big planned for Halloween, so stay tuned for that.
But on to the real reason you're here, my goals.
- My first goal was to get accepted 4 times this year. Unfortunately, I haven't made much progress with this one. I'm fairly positive, I've sent out more submissions in this six month period than I have in any other time period, but I haven't had a positive result yet. There are some that have been shortlisted, but for the most part it's been rejection paradise over here in the land of AzarRising. I'm not letting that discourage me, but I am thinking of a different way to handle this for next year's writing goals.
- Secondly, I wanted to finish the second draft of my Nightmare Noir sequel. Thankfully, this one has been progressing better than my first goal. Although, much of the novel has been altered from that original first draft (hence the point of a rough draft) but I've been able to make a lot of headway with this current iteration of the story, and I'm happy with how it's developing, and looks to be on the mark for completion this year.
- My aim was to finish three short stories this year. How far have I come along with that goal is debatable. On the one hand, I haven't finished any, and have completely missed the mark so far for the year. However, on the other hand I've started four different ones, and have notes for several others all in the works. So by percentage of goal completed I'm pretty far along. the question is if I can finish at least three of the stories by end of year.
- My final goal was two fold. Firstly, to write a strong female character based after my fiance, and secondly to write a short story dedicated to her and our relationship together. It was never my intention to have both halves of this goal completed with the same story. As such, I've begun work on the one, still holding off on the other. I have written a strong female character based on Sable, but currently the outlook for the character isn't bright, and I don't know if that'll fulfill the parameters of the goal, if I kill her off, so... maybe back to the drawing board on that one. I haven't started "our" story, but I think I know where I'm going to go with that one, so maybe it'll be one of the three short stories I finish this year. We'll see.
Writing has been slow going for the past few months because of some personal reasons (all good ones though) so I'm not sure where I'll land on these writing goals for 2018, but I'll never stop writing, so I ask you keep on reading.
